COMPETITION RULES

THE MAURICE ANDRE INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET COMPETITION

1 – The Mister Ibé company promotes and organizes the 7th Maurice André International Trumpet Competition from November 20 to 28, 2022 at La Seine Musicale (92100 Boulogne Billancourt, France). 

2 – Candidates must be less than 31 years old on November 27, 2022 to participate. 

3 – The entry fee of 50€ implies the final participation of the candidate. This entry fee will not be refunded, except in case of cancellation of the competition.

4 – Transportation, lodging and meals of the candidates will not be taken in charge by the organization of the Competition. A list of youth hostels and hotels near the competition is available on the website under the Practical Information tab. 

5 – Candidates will have the possibility to rehearse for 30 minutes with an accompanying pianist in the studios of La Seine Musicale. If the candidate wishes to rehearse for more than 30 minutes with the accompanying pianist, he/she must inform us before October 10, 2022. (the extra time with the pianist will be at the candidate’s expense).

Candidates will have the possibility to come with their accompanying pianist if they inform us before October 10, 2022.

6 – Rehearsals for the first round will begin on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at La Seine Musicale. 

7 – As of November 10, all participants will be informed by e-mail of the time of their first round rehearsal. All rounds of the competition will take place at La Seine Musicale (92100 Boulogne Billancourt, France). The finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse with the Orchestre Symphonique de la Garde Républicaine the day before the finals, i.e. Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Quartier des Célestins in Paris (18 boulevard Henri-IV, 75004 Paris 4th) from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

8 – PRIZES•

First prize: € 12.000

Second prize: € 6.000

Third prize: € 3.000,00

The first prize will not be divided.

Prizes in kind: the competition organization reserves the right to offer several concert engagements to the different winners. These proposed concert engagements will be communicated to the winners at the end of the competition. 

Additional prize to the winner (first prize): an Adrien Jaminet trumpet worth 3 500€.

All finalists must make themselves available until November 28, 2022 included. 

The laureate will be asked to participate in the Concert Homage to Maurice André the day after the final. 

The organization of the Competition reserves the right to propose to the second and third prize winners to participate in the Concert Homage to Maurice André. 

9 – For the passage from the first round to the second round and from the second round to the final, the evaluation of the competitors will be expressed by a declaration of admission or non-admission with evaluation by the jury. The evaluation of the final competitors will be done by marks from 1 to 10 (divided into quarter points) expressed by each member of the jury on special bulletins. The final evaluation will be the result of the average of the marks given by each member of the jury after the elimination of the highest and lowest marks. The results of the two final rounds will be added together. The final evaluation of the candidates will be based on the performances of the first, second and final rounds.

10 – In the second round, a maximum of 12 (twelve) competitors will be admitted, in the final a maximum of 4 (four) competitors will be admitted.

11 – The order of the candidates (in the first and second round) will be organized by group according to the choice of the works. The order of the candidates within the groups will be in alphabetical order. 

12 – Candidates must be on the site of the Seine Musicale at least one and a half hours before their performance in front of the jury and must inform the competition organization of any displacement, on pain of exclusion from the competition. 

13 – The jury is composed exclusively of former winners of the Maurice André competition, with the exception of the presidents of the jury.

14 – One or more presidents will be present during the three rounds. The final result of the jury is not subject to appeal.

15 – Remote jury members will have access to the registrant database to identify candidates and submit their scores.

16 – If a member of the jury has had a teaching relationship with one of the candidates during the last three years, or if he/she works or has worked in the same training as the candidate, this juror will not be allowed to participate in the judgement. 

17- The first and second rounds of the competition are open to the public amid reservation. The final round, on November 27, 2022, will be public. 

18 – Entries must be sent on the competition website before September 20, 2022 at 11:59 pm. After this date, registration will be closed and it will no longer be possible to participate in the competition.

19 – Inscription to the Competition implies the full and unconditional approval of the rules. By paying the registration fee, each candidate consents to the saving of his/her personal data (image and personal information) for archival purposes.

20 – In case of controversy, the original text of the rules will be considered legally binding.
